DELIS NEGRÓN

1. The documents were digitized according to the preservation procedures of the Library of Congress, a process Recovery has used since its founding in 1992. The documents were scanned in original order as provided by the family.

2. An excel sheet was created to organize the metadata. This Excel sheet was categorized keeping the original order of the documents. The sections are: Family photographs, Poetry (including the two published collections), Press (including newspapers clipping of the various aspects of Delis Negrón’s participation, such as editing, publishing and translating), Manuscripts (composed of several unpublished typewritten documents with handwritten editions), Correspondence (including personal and business related postcards and letters) and Notes (composed of a handwritten notebook with his personal notes).

3. Additionally, the following information was included in the metadata: identification number, subject headings, and name tags. The metadata included with the images follows the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative with the information that was available. Some difficulties arose in the use of bilingual subject headings since the Spanish subject headings available until now are very limited.

4. The collection was transferred to a digital platform which functions as a digital repository, categorized in the manner established in the Excel data. Several aspects were added to the site, including a narrative describing Delis Negrón's life and legacy, family quotes, poetry recitations, oral family histories, photographs documenting the donation of the collection and reflections of family members and graduate students involved in the creation of the project.

5. The digital archive will have Spanish and English versions to make this available to mono- and bilingual communities. This reflects Negrón’s own bilingual practice as he published and wrote in both English and Spanish.

6. Interaction with the Negrón community uses various digital technologies in order to facilitate access to his documents and the family’s contribution: Delis Negron's Facebook profile, Palabras-poem collection digitally available, Delis Negrón Digital Archive and Omeka’s digital exhibit. The public is also invited to interact with sections such as the transcriptions of his personal notes using crowdsourcing methods.

7. This project is a work in collaboration with Graduate Research Assistants: Isis Campos, Sylvia Fernández (Team Leader), Victoria Moreno and Annette Zapata. Under the umbrella of Recovering the US Hispanic Literary Heritage and US Latina/o Digital Humanities. Greatly appreciate the support and consultation of the Negrón family.
